Wonderful Wedding Wednesday • Autumn Wedding Food Inspiration

I had always imagined a summer wedding when I was a little girl, but when I started dreaming up this post idea I realised all the food I love to eat is so Autumnal that perhaps I picked the wrong season!

Every week I support The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, a charity helping terminally people get married, with a wedding related post, so this week it's food!

I love canapés at a wedding. As a guest I am always racing around getting ready and too excited to eat lunch before the ceremony, and then feel ravenous when we get to a reception venue!

I made these sweet and sticky fig canapés, which would be perfect for an Autumn wedding buffet.

In fact they went down a treat with my 2 year old too! I am tempted to make another batch and save them for pre school packed lunches.

Ingredients:

  • Puff pastry sheets cut into circles approx 3 inch diameter. I used a scalloped cutter
  • Figs
  • Walnuts
  • Acacia Honey
  • Desiccated coconut

Instructions:

  • Pre heat your oven to 180 degrees/Gas Mark 4
  • Cut your circles from the puff pastry sheets
  • Slice your figs thinly and layer 3 slices per pastry circle
  • Chop your whole walnuts and sprinkle over the fig slices
  • Drizzle half a teaspoon of honey onto the figs (I preferred a thicker honey to start with as it will melt in the oven whilst cooking)
  • Sprinkle desiccated coconut over and bake for 20 mins.

Add a little extra coconut and honey to the top layer if you choose to stack them for extra wow factor. The coconut works just like a dusting of icing sugar. Embrace the gooey wonder that falls out of the oven, it's not about perfect shapes, let the pastry do it's thing!

Check out these other delicious Autumn wedding food canapé and starter ideas, using seasonal ingredients. Which one would you fancy eating the most?!

Top left to right; pumpkin quiche, autumn favour bagsapple crisps, sausage and mushroom canapés, butternut squash soup, parsnip and roasted vegetable crostini, beetroot and goat's cheese canapés, plum and cobnut tarts

Please take a minute out of your busy days to read about the work of The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation and if you have another minute, donate £1. If ever person who reads this post donated £1, it would go a long way towards paying for someone's entire wedding.

Wonderful Wedding Wednesday • The Wedding Fairy

Well what a treat I have for you today for #WonderfulWeddingWednesday to support The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation.

Last week I introduced you to  Kirsten aka The Little Wedding Helper and this week I have the sensational George Watts, known in the industry as The Wedding Fairy

I couldn't imagine anyone more perfect to be the UK's fairy godfather to all the brides and grooms to be!

George Watts.jpg

If you ever have the pleasure to meet George, you will leave feeling like you have made a best friend. I can personally vouch that a night out with him is absolutely as raucous an outrageous as you would expect it to be!

Have a peek at his show reel in his words "As camp as christmas!"

Here's my five minutes with the fairy! Enjoy ;)

"I think I naturally just gravitated to the 'Wedding World' as I have always loved all the individual elements of a wedding... the cake, the flowers oh and of course the dress! If I remember correctly, the The Wedding Fairy title derived from a bridal consultation a few years back over a skinny latte!

The best thing about working in the wedding industry is all the incredibly talented people I get to work with on a daily basis. Every time you think you have seen it all, someone comes along and takes your breath away with a fresh twist on a wedding tradition. I am naturally very inquisitive (aka nosey) and so my biggest joy is stepping into a couples life and delving around a bit to really personalise the day and make it their own. I have done lots of this over the past few weeks on my book tour!

Oh wow the list of crazy things I have worked on is endless! I have transformed into a burlesque dancer, butler in the buff, rally car driver, hairdresser and even zorbed down a hill all in the name of weddings! Organising a proposal up in a hot air balloon was also pretty incredible and a real honour to witness such a magical moment. Everyone should balloon once, it is utterly breathtaking."

So who wants to see George as a burlesque dancer?!

The Wedding Fairy says his proudest moment was signing his first book! And so it should be George! The Wedding Fairy has taken the wedding world by storm! George has a number of books to help couples plan their special days including the Number 1 Best Seller on the Amazon Wedding 100 Book Chart! What an achievement! The 1.5 million plus hits on You Tube aren't half bad either!

George regularly contributes to all the major UK wedding magazines and is a resident expert on TV shows including The Wright Stuff on FIVE, E4’s 50 Greatest Wedding Shockers, The Good Food Channel, TLC America for The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton - reaching over 22 million viewers, The Alan Titchmarsh Show for ITV1 and a mix of programmes for Sky's Wedding TV.

More recently George has been guest writing for Pippa Middleton’s The Party Times, The Daily Mail and talking DIY Weddings alongside leading fashion bible littleblackdress.co.uk.

He is also has a fabulous column in BritishMODE where this month he talks about the latest wedding trends and flower farms. I must be so on trend with my blog post from The Somerset Flower Farm

George also created and founded National Wedding Day where happy couple unite and rejoice in their special days! Once a year couples from all over the world will celebrate their wedding days all over again and help support their chosen charity. I for one will be joining in next August to support The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation

Naomi, who founded this incredible charity to help terminally ill people realise their dream of getting married, is a fairy godmother to all the couples they support.

So pick up your wand and cast your own magic spell by donating just £1 to The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation.

George has so kindly offered to donate a session with one of the Foundation's happy couples to help them plan their special day and cast his magic too!

You can find George on Facebook and Twitter too. His latest book, The Wedding Fairy's Big Day Breakdown is available to buy here.

Wonderful Wedding Wednesday • sneak peek

I love supporting The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation and it has led me to some incredible people in the wedding industry.

No more so than the super talent that is the stylist extraordinare, Kirsten Butler.

Known to EVERYONE who is anyone in the industry as The Little Wedding Helper, she is the industry winner for Best Special Touch 2013 and a judge this year at the national Wedding Industry Awards.

I managed to whizz up to her house and snap away at her home that is bursting with props! There are props along the floor, props on the walls, props along the fireplace, if there's a surface it's brimming with passion for styling.

I love that Kirsten completely lives her work and her home is like a wonderful prop shop!

I am going to share the photos on Sunday in the second of my #SundayPropShop link ups.

Kirsten is one of a number of kind hearted suppliers who also donate their time and expertise to supporting the brides and grooms helped by The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation.

Kirsten will be helping them style their stand at another fabulous event she is co hosting, an upcoming pop up wedding fair called The Little Wedding Space.
