Aeroplane Boy's Bedroom Inspiration • Featuring Urban Wardrobes

Welcome to the first inspiration post in the journey of us bringing life back into our new house!

We are busy working on the dining/family room, which will definitely be the most well used room in the house, and I will share my ideas for that room later this week, but first I want to show you some inspiration for the boys' bedroom.

We decided we wanted to see if the boys would like sharing a bedroom, whilst they are young and play with similar toys, and before the moody teenage years kick in!

So when we sold our lovely house in Weston, they moved into a room together at the house we rented whilst searching for our forever house. And now I couldn't imagine them not together! The don't have to share at the new house but the attic room gives them their own space, on the top floor, a bedroom and a den in one. However at the moment it's pink!

They will desperately need a wardrobe after living out of boxes for a couple of months, and the space beside the doorway is ideal. But look at the angles! The beams are beautiful but they pose a challenge to most freestanding wardrobes.

What we really need is built in fitted wardrobes like the practical and classic collections from Urban Wardrobes. I had never even thought about the possibility of sliding doors in a loft space, but their clever designs have got me thinking. We need something that maximises the storage area and bespoke wardrobes are the ideal way to get the absolute most out of every square inch.

The boys have requested an aeroplane theme to their new bedroom. So the owl and nautical accessories have been passed on and stored away (Who knows there may be a nautical party in the future to plan!) and we are now firmly in aviation mode!

I love to build a room with a curated collection, not necessarily matching but with a strong central theme and then accessorise with curious finds. I want to reuse some of the lovely things from Sammy's nautical bedroom in the last house so we are sticking with a red, white and blue palette as the main colours and have tried to source prints and decor that will grow with them rather than cutesy younger boy's bedding and pieces that will date quickly and cost lots of pennies to update in a year or so.

The boys have strong ideas, the shelves behind their bed is going to be for their "precious things", birthday cards they treasure and special certificates from school and I show them samples of decor I like on the computer and they choose their favourite.

So here are a few things on my wish list. A love list and a lust list (I need to earn a few more pounds for those) of perfect plane decorations.

Me and Mine - A Family Portrait Project July

Back in April we thought we had found our dream house. But we hadn't. It was a temporary lust and we are so happy fate took over.

July has been the month of certainty. Certainty that we have exchanged and secured our dream forever house, assurance that Sammy has a school place to start in September and Ollie a new pre school and total confidence that we are buying the right house.

We have said goodbye to Sammy's beloved school this month. We watched him proudly hand out his little end of term treats and our hearts ached listening to all his pals saying their goodbyes and wishing him luck at his new school.

end of term

He had a final scoot around the playground like king of the school, had some photos with his chums, hugged goodbye his favourite Year 6 friend who had become his mentor, adorned in her signed t-shirt, (Who else remembers that ritual?!) and we headed for dinner on the beach!

We've had one last viewing on the new house this month, taking my in laws to visit for the first time and it was wonderful seeing them love and appreciate the house as much as we do. At one point as we were walking around the garden my mother in law hugged me and giddily said "Oh I am so excited for you all!" And that's how we feel every time we have been there.

This final few weeks as we wait to hear a completion date feels like torture and it may mean Sammy and I have to spend a couple of weeks in a B&B so that he can start school with all the new Year 1 children. But it will all be worth it in the end.

Having a blog is a wonderful way to journal our move and I thought a little video before we get the house officially, would be a nice little tradition to start. I think I will take one on moving in day too.

Turn the volume down - for some reason every time I upload it the audio is dreadful! I've almost lost the will to live!

Now I've shown you me and mine, it's your turn to show me you and yours. Link up your family snap from July with all of us. Can you believe this project has been running for 18 months! I love seeing how we are all changing. Older, wiser and one of us has lost a tooth ;)

Pop over to Katie's blog to see her happy family, tanned and refreshed from their Summer holidays. There's a milestone in their house too, a super cute one is walking!

Forever House • Part 3

If it's possible, every time we visit our new house, we fall a little bit more in love with it. And when you know you have exchanged and the countdown to actually moving in has started, it all feels strangely surreal. Like packing to go on holiday, you almost don't believe it until you are on the plane and I still can't really believe this is going to be our home.

When we visited yesterday, after a day of school and pre school tours, it was all about final discussions about what appliances they were leaving, measuring for curtains and making a giant list of all the things we would love to do when we move in.

Sammy asked the owners "Are we staying here forever now?!" and whilst we weren't staying forever yesterday, our moving date has been brought forward, from what we expected to be a Christmas move to an early September date!

It does mean a little logistical problem with Sammy starting a new school, but for a week or so, Sammy and I may stay in a little B&B or commute the 50 minutes journey from my in laws.

The school is idyllic. Picture perfect village school that doesn't seem to have changed from 100 years ago. Tiny classes for a state primary, he will be number 17 and a swimming pool, 90cm above ground where they try and get the children in at least once a week, through the warmer months. They were all splashing around when we arrived, much to Sammy's delight, practising for Sports Day later that afternoon.

Sammy proudly showed the Headmistress his school report, listing all his excellent scores and it was lovely to hear that they would welcome a strong character boy in the class, to compliment the girls.

Ollie's new nursery was equally as welcoming and homely and he is all registered to start as soon as we officially move in. He showed how confident he is in new surroundings, a confidence that is sometimes overshadowed by Sammy at family gatherings, and we just had time to pop into my favourite discovery during our house hunt, Sprout and Flower, before sussing out a lovely local family run pub.

New House

I couldn't resist capturing some of the garden, which blows me away every time. And this time the sweet peas were as tall as me.

As we sat in the conservatory scribbling notes and exchanging email addresses, 86 years of age and on email - I love it, we could hear the boys playing hide and seek. Laughing giggling, crashing into each other and screaming tag, every few minutes!

That's what I have longed to hear, boys getting lost, making up games and running! It's darling Ollie's 3rd Birthday today, he shares his birthday with my Mum so we have a double celebration at the weekend planned which I will share next week, and I couldn't help day dreaming about all the birthdays we will celebrate here. Games in the garden and decorations in the trees. Bring it on!

So now I need your best tips for moving! With small people. It all felt terribly rushed and disorganised when we moved right on top of Christmas, so I am determined with some time to prepare, to put into practise any of your best advice!
