Paint Chart Egg Hunt - Chocolate Free
PaintChartEggHunt.jpg

I love Easter time but the full onslaught of chocolate hasn't even begun and I am already having to limit what the boys are eating!

Egg hunts are fab but my boys enjoy the collecting part more than the eating, so they loved this hunt even though it was chocolate free.

Paint charts are great for all sorts of learning games as well as making fab stripey eggs.

They don't have to be perfect, so take a stack of 5 or so and cut out your egg shape.

I used dolly pegs to attach them to the trees in the little park near us. A real adventure that didn't cost a penny!

We couldn't believe it when it started to snow, just before we left for the park. Sammy decided he needed to take a net with him to catch some flakes! Too cute!

We made the bags last year. If you fancy making a no sew felt bag for your little one have a look here.

How to grow your own flowers

I have wanted to grow our own flowers forever.

By the side of the house tucked alongside the driveway, there are more than 10 hyacinths in bloom. They grow year on year, in this funny random place and when I spotted a mini greenhouse the other day, I knew just what our week would have in store.

The boys love nothing better than getting muddy but I wanted them to take an interest in where flowers come from, so how better to teach them than to grow our own.

Planting Flowers Gather Stones.jpg

I made it a game, who could collect the most stones for the lower tray, and as they frantically filled their buckets, I explained why you need a tray full of stones, so that the water can drain beneath the soil tray. My sister's baby shower favours came in handy too!

Fill your lower tray with stones (I used one with no drainage holes as I don't want the water to rust the greenhouse) and then fill your top tray, with holes with soil. I used a small bag of compost specially for potting seedlings and the trays were £1 each from the local garden centre.

Make a small hole with your finger and drop a seed into the hole. Ideally spread about 1cm apart. Ours got thrown in a little haphazardly by Ollie but he is only 20 months!

Cover over your seeds with another inch of soil and water. Don't drench!

Planting Flowers Watering.jpg

Our mini greenhouse is ready to grow some sweet sweetpeas, poached egg flowers and love in a mist. I can't wait to share the flowers as they bloom!

I just adore this greenhouse. I am going to use it at parties and it would make a great wedding post box to collect all the wedding cards.

World Book Day
World-Book-Day-6.jpg

My Sammy, he is so unpredictable. When I asked him which book character he would like to be for World Book Day today, I expected one of the classics that we read over and over. But no. He wanted to be Tom Foley! A little 7 year old boy who learns to play tennis! We bought the book at least a year ago and it does get read at least twice a month, but I never expected him to want to dress up like Tom!

Costume : round glasses, frizzy hair, red shorts, blue t-shirt, red socks and green shoes and of course a tennis racquet.

A trip to the local joke shop and charity shop and we were sorted! Shame the glasses only lasted 2 minutes before Ollie pulled off one of the arms off. A bit of cellotape and we were sorted.

Anyone for Tennis? by Shane McG is a funny story with jokes that are obvious enough and funny for a 3 year old.

Here is my Tom Foley!

What or who did your little readers dress up as?!
