A visit to Vintage Von
Weston super Mare seems is thriving with thrifty vintage stores.
Nestled in the town centre is Vintage Von. The last time I popped in Yvonne had some lovely printers trays and I whisked one (along with a couple of other things) straight into the boot. This time I felt the an even greater exhilaration and excitement when I walked through the door!
The stock was slightly different and there is more of it. Lots more. More smaller pieces, more selection, think 6 printers trays, 6 little chicken wire cupboards, several sets of painted shelves and more trinkets and mason jars than you could shake an old walking stick at.
There's something if you want to invest in a bigger piece of furniture and something if you just popped in for a browse. If you don't want to leave without anything, there are lots of little bits and bobs for less than a fiver.
There's a stack of vintage cases to drool over, mirrors to get distracted by and bits for the home and for outdoors. The shop is literally bursting with photo prop ideas. I could have easily bought at least 75% of the stock there and then!
The best thing about Von herself is that she uses the word tooters. Check out her Facebook page and you will see what I mean.
The only trouble with vintage stock is that it's usually one of a kind. So if you don't want to be crying over that lost painted chair, snap it up when you see it. Chances are it will be gone by next week. Fortunately, this has been a bank holiday weekend and Von isn't open again until Wednesday, which means the things I have been dreaming of since I saw her on Friday, might just still be there.
On my wish list in no particular order (I want them all!) :
- the wooden sleigh
- the painted white shelves (think of what you could hoard on another set of shelves)
- the red metal S
- the metal bath
- the large wire basket
I originally went in to take some new product photos for Von and instead of getting paid, I took my payment in the form of an amazing wheeled shopper basket! Two little red wheels like stabilisers and a deep egg shaped basket. The ultimate bag for life - my Granny would be so proud, she always carried a wicker basket to the shops.
The handle is a long walking stick with a smooth crook at the top. It is going to be a wonderful photography prop too. So watch out for lots more detailed shots, coming to a post soon!
I almost bought the most divine Belfast sink wooden drainer but just about resisted. Well, until I got home and text Von to say I'd take it! On hold for the girl who loves a bit of woodgrain in her photos! How could I resist after displaying it so beautifully for this photo?!
If you are local to Weston, pop in, I guarantee you will find something you fall in love with.
You can find all the contact details on the Vintage Von website.
ps don't forget there is only a week left to vote in the BritMums awards. Feel free to send two my way in CRAFTS and PHOTO ;) Click HERE to vote.
