Happy Home Tour Part 1 - Living Room

Welcome to our home!

Part 1 of the Happy Home Tour starts in the living room.

Home Tour - Living Room.jpg

It's taken almost as long as we have lived in the house, (9 years on 11th May) to get the living room the way we really wanted it.

We have a lovely kitchen which doubles as a family room, which meant that for a long time, the living room was unloved and unused. When Ollie came along we realised how much we treasured an adult space and whilst there are often hidden bags of charity shop purchases lurking behind the door, and the dregs of a blog photo shoot behind the sofa, it is a calm and peaceful room.

My favourite feature, apart from the fireplace, is the painted console table. Yes it's cluttered, but I adore it. I keep my scrap book paper in the wooden tool box and my Granny's suitcase rests on top.

In a room of neutral colours there is just a hint of green in the cushions and the flowers. I love that I can change the feel of the room, just by changing the flowers, depending on the season.

I know compared to lots of people it must seem like we have a tiny television, but honestly we  hardly use it. We are big Apple tv fans in this house (anyone else obsessed with MadMen?). The best thing we did was put in an open fire and we have used it all winter. I love hanging bunting across the fireplace and whilst it may be too plain for some, it is an escape from the rest of the house which is covered in trains and dressing up!

There are 3 projects left to finish. A storage unit for my stack of photo albums, a new large window frame photograph frame and a wall hanging. I'll be sharing them over the next couple of weeks.

What is your favourite room in your house? Where should the tour go next?!

ps. I am shortlisted in 2 categories for a national blogging award! I would love to get through to the final for Photo and Crafts, so don't delay, vote today! Vote HERE.

Me & Mine - A Family Portrait Project February

Hooray it's month 2 of Me & Mine! I realised that in a month we haven't taken a single photo of the 4 of us, thank goodness for this Family Portrait Project.

January was inspired by my grandparents. For February, I mentioned when I made this Family Kisses Art, that we have this little ritual called an 'all together kiss'.

I have wanted a photo of our silly family bedtime routine and this gave me the perfect excuse to shoe horn my husband into setting up the tripod! How else do you hang a camera upside down?!

Squished and full of love. An All Together Kiss. Happy February.

Magpie Monday recap - painting projects

I have bought a few bargain things over the last few weeks that all became mini projects. Here are the before and after shots!

Glassware shelves from Vintage Von. Hand painted by moi in Farrow & Ball French Gray.

Continuing the painted theme ... remember my bargain table, £2.75! Sammy lovingly painted it (bit scrappy in places but that makes it even better) on a sunny day. We used the left over paint from the shelves which matches the sage green accessories in the kitchen. The table is perfect as it is really heavy and they can't push and pull it between themselves over tea!

Plus the little cheap ones you can get in Ikea (which we have bought in the past) aren't quite big enough for more than two and we often have little guests for tea!

The next DIY job is to make some place mats. Laminator at the ready!

The last project is to recycle the bag of vintage fishing nets. Perfect for a boy with a nautical room! I have tried to piece both their rooms together slowly over time. collecting bits and pieces as I go rather than buying the matching set from page 72 from a catalogue. Whilst you get an instant finished look, the trouble with buying everything in one go is that it's much harder to justify any extras, a few months down the line!

I want to use the nets for storage for all his soft toys which he loves to look at but has grown out of playing with on a daily basis. They need a good airing but will look fab. As soon as they don't smell like the sea they will be up. The scent is a little too authentic!
