Pantone Colour of the Year 2024
BRING IT ON.
If ever there was a colour I was going to shout about, here it is. Peach Fuzz, a CBL dream come true.
You’ll find shades of Peach all over my home and this coral tone has been my Capture by Lucy colour since I launched the site. This Pantone Colour of the Year 2024 beats at the heart of CBL Backdrops and just wait to see what surfaces we have in store for you.
The Backdrop Store came bursting into the new year with a range of new warm toned orange hue marbles, vintage gingham, and gentle plaster blended painted textures. I found the most beautiful checkered fabric in a local antiques store in 2022 and tested a number of colour options last year ready for a spring launch. Ever hopeful that the gods of the paint and colour world would finally give a nod to a warmer, almost nostalgic, colour palette.
While there doesn’t seem to be a revival of pastel bathroom suites emerging just yet… pretty painted fittings and fixtures are filtering through from design-led forward thinking companies.
Leading the way!
I have taken inspiration from French interiors, surface pattern designers and feel instinctively that the world will move from the traditionally cooler grey beloved safe neutrals, to this more whimsical escapism.
Much like our authentic Moroccan tiles that we launched after Natalie and I scoured the streets of Marrakesh in May 2019, we know that a big change in direction in backdrops takes time to fall in love with. At the time we crossed our fingers and toes that you would see what we saw, and almost 4 years later, our tile backdrops are now the most popular.
Statement Marble was our Spring launch in 2023 after I found the most beautiful stones at a hidden vintage yard in America and discovered treasures in Belgium in February. Now we see all the main influences across the food and drink sector, major supermarkets and publications bringing bold veining, high class restaurant feels to every day recipe shoots. Larger fragments of mass in the marble producing Breccia veining which create a more dramatic backdrop for your dishes.
I feel the most honourable sense of absolute duty in the industry to continue to lead the backdrop evolution! Forever hopeful when we launch what feels left field now, will challenge photographers and stylists out of their comfort zones. And watch and wait to see our change in colour palettes, prints and pattern cascade through the backdrop market.
The new peach colour way of the Portuguese raised star tiles I shot in 2021 is getting its time to shine. There is already a movement on the march for corrugated and textured tiles filtering through to the brave high street retailers daring us all to revamp and renovate in contemporary style.
I was nodding along like a novelty dog on the dashboard, reading Claybrook’s “What a relief” post. CBL says YES to fluted, rippled and concave, an effect you’d think would be hard to replicate in a printed backdrop. But that is our difference. Shot in absolute 1:1 scale we can achieve that 3D effect in print, that Photoshop vector creations cannot achieve.
Waving goodbye to flat for flat lays in 2024!
I live and breath texture and my mission is to show you how even a subtle nod to contemporary styling can elevate your content. If you want to dive head first with us, but are feeling tentative over this tangerine, then let me show you how it could work for your brand.
